FAQ

What kind of maintenance does polished concrete require?

Concrete is comparable to some natural stone in its maintenance requirements. A naturally porous material, it requires sealers and will develop a natural patina with use.

A wax can be applied on top of the sealer, both protecting the sealer and adding an additional layer of protection from liquids.

While sealer needs to be completely removed and reapplied if significantly damaged, wax finishes can be reapplied during normal upkeep. Beeswax polish works very well.

Can I use my concrete surface as a chopping board?

Not if you want it to look and perform well. Cutting, chopping directly on concrete is not recommended and neither is using abrasive cleaning products or utensils.

Is concrete water-resistant?

Yes, sealed polished concrete surfaces are fully resistant to water. Depending on local conditions, white mineral residue might be left by water, but this can be completely avoided if the surface is dried reasonably quickly.

How do I clean my polished concrete furniture?

Use warm soapy water, or special concrete cleaning products. Do not use bleach or other corrosive cleaners, solvents and similar substances. Avoid abrasive pads or cleaning products, as this can damage the sealant.

Can I use my concrete item immediately?

This depends on the product. If you buy an item from our available stock, it will be fully cured and can be used normally immediately.

If you buy a custom-made worktop to be installed in-situ, you should not use or even touch it for at least 48 hours after fitting so the glue and the sealer have the time to set.

Additionally, treat your concrete surfaces with care for the first couple of weeks, making sure nothing wet or acidic comes in contact with them, to avoid staining.

Will the colour of my concrete product change after purchase?

Again, depending on the product, the final colour will be either very similar to what you see in photos and on delivery, or, if it’s made recently, it will take a while (in some cases as long as two weeks) for the colour to fully develop.

The final colour will be lighter than on a fresh item, because concrete takes some time to completely dry.
